Hugh has captivated audiences since 1975 with his dynamic watercolor demonstrations.  These pages will highlight some of the demonstration paintings that are completed most often in only 15 to 30 minutes!

Award winning work and demonstrations that have captivated audiences of every age group.  Hugh Skibbens has been painting in watercolor since 1975, and demonstrating to schools students, school assemblies, retirement centers and civic groups for the past 12 years.  This is an inspiring introduction to watercolor for the youngest beginning student and motivating for the more advanced and experienced.  Accompanied by either complete instruction or the timeless music of Strauss and Tchaikovsky, these watercolor demonstrations are unique experiences!

1.     Demonstration with Music.     Suited to every age group, two original watercolor paintings are completed and accompanied by the timeless music of Strauss and/or Tchaikovsky. The paintings unfold and finish to a dramatic musical climax!  Stage lighting completes the atmosphere for this amazing performance.  The unique combination of original art and classical music inspires audiences of every age group.  Best program for school assemblies.

2.    Demonstration with Instruction.  This is a highly motivating and instructional demonstration adapted to any age group.  As the painting progresses, all aspects of the painting and materials are thoroughly explained in a conversational manner, during which questions are encouraged.   Many different textures are created through the use of sponges, tissues, a toothbrush, credit card and more! 

3.   Workshops.     This is a hands-on program in which students are instructed in a step-by-step process in the creation of their own painting.  Workshops may be scheduled separately from a demonstration, but are an especially valuable follow-up, incorporating many of the same materials and techniques.

Staging & equipment needs:
The only equipment the school needs to supply for the demonstrations are two 8’ tables.   All other equipment is supplied by Hugh Skibbens.

Hugh will supply lighting for demonstration area and sound system complete with speakers (“Demonstration with Music” only).  It is requested that house lighting be turned off during this performance.


Discounts are available for multiple days or schools sharing a day. Any of the programs may be combined to enrich your student’s experience.
